Board of Selectmen minutes from 12-03-08

December 3, 2008 – approved by the BOS 12/17/08
Senior Center – 6:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.  Present were First Selectman Anthony J. DaRos; Second Selectman Francis W. Walsh and Third Selectman John Opie.  Also attending were Shirley Rasmussen, Town Planner; Ottie Norwood, Center Revitalization Review Board; Tony Terry, Center Revitalization Review Board; David Baker, RTM member; Pamela Fowler, RTM member; Frank Twohill, RTM member; Chris Sullivan, RTM member; Wayne Cooke; and Diane Stricker, Reporter, Branford Review.

Motion made by Selectman Walsh to approve the minutes of November 19, 2008.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous. 

Ottie Norwood addressed the Board to provide information concerning the Center Revitalization Review Board.  Tony Terry also addressed the Board.

Motion made by Selectman Walsh to approve the Board of Selectmen’s meeting schedule for 2009 striking the February 4, 2008 date.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.

Motion made by Selectman Walsh to approve To consider, and if appropriate, approve a request from Nancy Cohen, Activity Coordinator, Canoe Brook Senior Center, for an exemption as permitted by section 115-4 of the Code of the Town of Branford regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages in a public area and allow beer and wine to be served at the following events:

Jumpin’ January Dinner Party        January 21, 2009
Mardi Gras Dinner Party                 February 10, 2009
Spring has Sprung Dinner Party    March 25, 2009

Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.

Motion made by Selectman Opie to approve a request from the Chabad Lubavitch of the Shoreline to place a Menorah on the Town Green from December 16, 2008 to January 2, 2009.  Seconded by Selectman Walsh.  Vote unanimous.

Commission on Elderly Services – Phyliss Batrow, Dana Murphy and Luba Mebert Schmid terms to expire December 31, 2011.  Motion made by Selectman Opie to approve the reappointments.  Seconded by Selectman Walsh.  Vote unanimous.

Solid Waste Management Commission – Richard Bauerfeld and Jessica Weller terms to expire September 30, 2013.  Motion made by Selectman Opie to approve the reappointments.  Seconded by Selectman Walsh.  Vote unanimous.

Executive Session was not held there were no pending tax appeals.

First Selectman DaRos read a letter from the Stony Creek Association concerning the recent road work to Thimble Island Road.  Mrs. Brencher addressed the Board regarding concerns that she had about the recent road work as well.  First Selectman DaRos stated that a meeting would be held on Friday morning at Town Hall with members of the Stony Creek Association and some of the neighbors to discuss their concerns.

First Selectman DaRos read a letter from the Food Council concerning the need for volunteers.

First Selectman DaRos read a letter from Mr. Wayne Cooke requesting ten minutes to address the Board.  Mr. Cooke addressed the Board from 6:30 p.m. to 6:56.

Motion made by Selectman Walsh to adjourn the meeting at 6:57 p.m.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.
