MINUTES OF SELECTMEN’S MEETING

July 5, 2006 – approved by the BOS 7/19/06

Senior Center – 6:00 p.m.

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.  Present at the meeting were First Selectwoman Cheryl P. Morris, Second Selectman Richard Sullivan, and Third Selectman John Opie.  Also present were Volunteer Firefighter Pension Committee members Madeline Clem, Calvin O’hidy and James Finch and Shelley Marcus, Town Attorney.
 
Motion made by Selectman Sullivan to approve the minutes of the June 21, 2006 Board of Selectmen’s meeting.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.
 
Madeline Clem, Calvin O’hidy and James Finch addressed the Board to give an overview concerning the proposed changes to the Volunteer Pension/Stipend Plan.

 
Motion made by Selectman Opie to approve changes to the Volunteer Pension/Stipend Plan effective January 1, 2005 (copy attached hereto).  Seconded by Selectman Sullivan.  Vote unanimous. 
 
Motion made by Selectman Sullivan to approve a request from the Senior Center to waive section 115-3 of the Code of Town of Branford concerning the consumption of alcoholic beverages in a public area and allow the Commission on Services for the Elderly to serve wine at a retirement reception for Matt Brady on July 26, 2006.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.
 

Motion made by Selectman Sullivan to enter into executive session at 6:26 p.m. to discuss pending tax appeals.  Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.
 
Present in executive session were First Selectwoman Cheryl P. Morris, Second Selectman Richard Sullivan, and Third Selectman John Opie.  Also present was Shelley Marcus, Town Attorney. 
 
Return to regular meeting at 6:44 p.m. For the record no votes were taken while in executive session.
 
Motion made by Selectman Sullivan to approve the stipulated agreements in the following tax appeal cases:
28 Sunrise Cove Camp – Carroll v. Town of Branford

276 Sunset Beach Road – Jenusaitis v. Town of Branford

225 Stony Creek Road – William and Dawn Massey v. Town of Branford, et al.

Seconded by Selectman Opie.  Vote unanimous.
 
Motion made by Selectman Opie to adjourn the meeting at 6:46 p.m.  Seconded by Selectman Sullivan.  Vote unanimous.
