In attendance:  Alinor Sterling, Chris Sullivan, Dorothy Docknevich, Alice Lambert,Pam Fowler, Peter Black.  Absent: Jay Bodner.
The meeting began at 7:15 and was held at the Community House.

The Committee heard the following items:

1.  Approval of minutes.  Motion to defer this item to our next meeting.  All in favor.

2.   To consider, and if appropriate, approve an ordinance establishing a Community Forest Commission.  Presentation by Unk DaRos, Shirley McCarthy and Lindsay Mathews concerning the need for a Community Forest Commission.  Creating the Commission will both give us a way to protect trees in our community and enable us to be recognized as a Tree City USA, which will make us eligible for funding to plant and protect trees in Branford.  Branford already spends almost exactly the $2 per capita necessary to qualify as a Tree City.  Any expenses incurred by the new Commission, including the expenses for the Arbor Day celebration, should be defrayed by grants.  Unk presented a draft ordinance.  Motion to approve the draft ordinance with revisions as made during our discussion made by Peter Black and seconded by Dorothy Docknevich.  All in favor.  A copy of the revised ordinance as approved by the Committee is attached to these minutes.

3.  To consider and, if appropriate, approve changes to the Purchasing Ordinance, Chapter 75 of the Code of the Town of Branford.  The First Selectman reported that he will have a draft ordinance shortly and asks that we then meet with department heads.  Motion to re-refer by Representative Black.  Seconded by Representative Fowler.  All in favor.

4.  To consider and, if appropriate, approve a request from the Registrars of Voters for the realignment of the voting districts and polling places.  We wish to defer consideration of redistricting until after the Nov. 4 election.  Motion to re-refer by Rep. Black.  Seconded by Rep. Fowler.  All in favor.

Motion to adjourn by Rep. Sullivan, seconded by Rep. Black.  All in favor.  Meeting adjourned at approx. 7:50.

Respectfully submitted,
Alinor Sterling
