There was a meeting of the RTM Ways and Means Committee on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Canoe Brook Senior Center, 11 Cherry Hill Road, Branford, CT.
This was a joint meeting with the Public Services Committee.
The meeting came to order at 7:37 PM. Present for Ways and Means were Rep. Cinque, Rep. Keefe, Rep. Nardella, and Rep. Thayer. Representative Avitable was absent.
Present for Public Services were Representative Baker, Representative Fowler, Representative Hanlon, and Representative Twohill. Also present were Selectman Opie, Representative Black, and Representative Reiners.
David Stein of Silver & Petrucelli, Town Engineer Janice Plaziak, Fire Chief Jack Ahern, Assistant Chief Shaun Heffernan, and Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Bob Massey presented.
1. To consider and act on the following proposed resolution approved by the Board of Finance: “Resolution appropriating $425,000 for the planning and design of a new fire headquarters and authorizing the issue of $425,000 bonds of the Town to meet said appropriation and pending the issuance thereof the making of temporary borrowings for such purpose” and to recommend the resolution for adoption by the Representative Town Meeting.
Motion to approve by Representative Nardella, second by Representative Keefe. The committees voted jointly to approve 8-0.
2. To consider and act on the following proposed resolution approved by the Board of Finance: “Resolution appropriating $350,000 for the planning and design of a new public works complex and authorizing the issue of $350,000 bonds of the Town to meet said appropriation and pending the issuance thereof the making of temporary borrowings for such purpose” and to recommend the resolution for adoption by the Representative Town Meeting.
Motion to disapprove by Representative Nardella, second by Representative Twohill. The committees voted jointly to approve the motion 6-2. (Representatives Keefe and Thayer against.)
Motion to adjourn by Representative Keefe, second by Representative Hanlon. Meeting was adjourned at 9:45.
