PRESS RELEASE

December 18, 2006

The Branford Planning and Zoning Commission invite the public to a presentation of the draft Town-wide Transportation Study and Town Center Parking and Circulation Study at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9. The meeting will take place at the Branford Community House, 46 Church Street.  Public questions and comments are welcome.

The Town Center Study proposes a three phase plan for improving the appearance, traffic safety, parking, and pedestrian accessibility of the Town Green.  Earth Tech, an engineering firm located in Glastonbury, CT, provided the traffic engineering expertise. Yale Urban Design Workshop (YUDW), part of the Yale School of Architecture, developed the design aspects of the plan.

The Town-wide Traffic Study, conducted by EarthTech, displays and analyzes traffic accident data and average daily traffic volumes on all major roadways.  Maps include existing and projected traffic volumes, existing and projected congestion levels, accident analysis and evacuation routes.  The report also recommends improvements at twenty-one problem intersections identified by the Police Department and by public comments made at public meetings held in May and June of this year.

The transportation studies are part of the Planning and Zoning Commission’s update of the Branford Plan of Conservation and Development.  For a preview of the presentation of these plans, go to the Planning and Zoning web site at www.saltmeadow.com/pz. (Click on “programs,” then “comprehensive plan.”)  Public comments can be made through the “contact us” section of the web site as well as at the public meeting on January 9.
