MINUTES OF 11/3/09 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BRANFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION TEACHER TERMINATION SUBCOMMITTEE
Board of Education Members, Frank Carrano, David Squires and Michael Krause convened a Special Meeting of the subcommittee designated by the Board of Education to conduct the hearing concerning the recommended termination of Denise Farina. The meeting convened at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 11:58 a.m. Attorney William Connon, the Board of Education’s procedural advisor, was also in attendance.
After reviewing the proposed findings submitted by the advocates for the parties, and certain procedural findings recommended by Attorney Connon, the Subcommittee adopted its recommended findings;
Subcommittee member Carrano made a motion, and it was seconded by subcommittee member Squires, that (a) the subcommittee’s procedural advisor be directed to compile, in writing, the findings adopted here today by the subcommittee and (b) based upon those findings, the subcommittee recommends to the Board of Education that the contract of employment of Denise Farina be terminated for the following reasons:
1. Inefficiency or incompetence based on evaluations of her using the Branford Public Schools Teacher Evaluation Instrument known as the Professional Growth and Assessment Process; and
2. Other due and sufficient cause, namely her inability or unwillingness to improve her professional practices, as directed.
All three members of the subcommittee voted in favor of the motion.
