DISCUSSION
02 Welcome to Parents in Attendance
· All present parents were introduced: Patricia Kahlbaugh, Joanne Borrus, John Pottenger, Pam Olejarczyk, Debbie Crookston, and Peter Berdon.
03 Why Parents Wanted to be on Committee?
· Was not in Branford for a while and wanted to get involved and see what is going on in schools
· PTA liaison with Tisko School
· Opportunity to hear what is going on in schools and an opportunity to contribute
04 Overview of the Committee and Goals
Communication
· Emails
· Websites
· Events for the community
· Weekly/bi-weekly newsletters, including weekly praises
· Postcards from teachers
· National evaluations of schools get sent home to parents vs. just online
· Branford Festival booth
05 Suggestions and Comments
· 8:00 PM nice time to have a meeting for parents
· Having BOE meetings after PTA meeting at different schools?
· Using The Sound newspaper to promote what we are doing, including successes of particular students, etc.
· Grandparents Day to reach out to seniors in the community
· Staff presentations are not being communicated well so people are aware
· Email list to members to let people know what is happening on agenda and then they can filter out to other members of the community
· Live webcam
· Active blog
· Parents more interaction with teachers vs. just pick up/drop off
· People are afraid to come
· Phone system technology that we just purchased can send, phone & email about meetings
